Stairs Hit box error

I was building a hut in the end placing stairs by my enderman farm.
What i expected to happen was i would break the wrongly placed stair (upside down)
What actually happened was i broke the block behind it because the hit box didn't render i logged out and it wasn't a ghost block.
reproduce:
place a stair upside down
be 1 block away
and look at the extruding point
