Cannot create Glistering Melon, despite having correct materials.

What I expected to happen was...:
When i surround a melon slice by 8 gold nuggets, i expected to make at Glistering Melon

What actually happened was...:
When I did the above the icon for the glistering appeared for a split second and then disappeared thus preventing me from creating the Glistering melon.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Had 1 melon slice and 9 gold nuggets (split from a gold ingot) in my inventory
2. Placed 8 gold nuggets in a circle around a melon slice in my crafting table.
3. Tried different melon slice and different nuggets to no avail.
4. Logged off, reset computer, logged on, repeat attempt to no avail.
