Completely dark end

While in the End, messing around and enchanting gear to the highest possible level, the whole environment turned entirely black. Endermen, obsidian and end stone were completely dark. Furthermore, I could no longer see the ender dragon.

I saved and quit to title, I exited the game but nothing would work.

The problem resolved itself but keeps happening.
