Game Crashes if screen saver turns on

Since I updated to the new 1.7.2 vs now anytime my computer activates the screensaver, or if the Minecraft window gets put in the background the game crashes.
I get a windows error "Java SE binary is not responding".

This is annoying since I like to toggle from the game to the wiki and back, and I can no longer do this without exiting first. Also if I walk away and my screensaver pops up I risk losing my progress.
Any help would be appreciated.
