All audio replaced by white noise

From first login after updating to 1.4.4 and subsequently 1.4.5 all sounds have been replaced by white noise. That is every noise in the game, from the menu/ title screen to actual gameplay. On another bug report, a user suggested waiting approximately 5 mins for sounds to all be downloaded. Tried that and the issue remains.
