Unable to milk cows in creative

Was messing around in creative and I went to milk a cow, but nothing happened. This cow happened to be custom-spawned, so I tried getting one from a spawn egg. Finally, went looking for a naturally spawned one, and when I still didn't get a bucket of milk, I went into survival, tried again, and boom. Milk bucket.
