'item pick button' in creative

When Holding a flint and steel the pick block button does not work. whenever i am holding anything else it works perfectly.

1: hold anything except flint and steel
2: pick a block (and it should work fine)
3: hold a flint and steel
4: no matter what you try and pick nothing works!
