Graphics/Texture glitches on an unmodded 1.6.4 client

What I expected to happen was that the game would run fine

What actually happened was that the textures were flashing on and off with white letters in-game, on the start menu, and on my desktop!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. login to minecraft normally
2. join a world
3. if you join a server the game crashes
