Stone Slabs catching Fire

In the picture you can see the setup

Lava with 2 stone slabs on top. 1 stone slab to the side with water on top.
on the opposite side of water there is a dirt block with carpet on top.

The stone slabs starting catching fire when the carpet was placed. The carpet never burns just the slabs catch fire for a period of time then extinguish
