No output to Log and Chat if using GUI

When running the minecraft_server.(snapshot).exe or .jar (without nogui) nothing is outputted to the Log and Chat window.

What I expected to happen was...:
I would see text in the Log and Chat window.

What actually happened was...:
The Log and Chat window remained empty.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download the minecraft_server.(snapshot).exe or .jar.
2. Double click the file.
3. Observe.
