Minecraft will load but won't save blocks. I updated from 1.4.7 to current version after purchase, and nothing will save.

I created numerous new worlds and tried to update my old worlds after purchase. The updates would save on ocasion, but the majority of the time, I would be in the location I quit playing last time and all the blocks I removed were back and all the blocks I placed were gone.
