Fire aspect isn't showing and working

I was playing in the game(survival) and i had a diamond sword enchanted with fire aspect I,smite II and knockback I.I went hunting and killed some monsters and i noticed the monsters were not flaming.I went in creative to test there and it wasn't working there either.So i switched back to 1.6.2 and it was working fine.Then i switched to snapshot 13w36b and i killed a chicken and it dropped cooked chiken.I thought i had turned off my particles but i had set them to All.
