Unproductive Stair Crafting

Since 1.2 bad crafting for slabs has been fixed. But not for stairs. Normally, you should get 6 stairs from 6 material blocks, not 4. No more than 6 because a stair can occupy 7/8 of one block space if it was placed near another stair. Crafting 4 stairs from 6 whole blocks means that 2 WHOLE blocks got destroyed!! Fix this trouble, please!
