modded minecraft forces me to use default skin

im trying to play modded minecraft and no matter what kind of mod i use. it forces me to use the zuri skin. "oh whats that? you have the create mod installed? default skin. you have a bugfix mod installed? default skin. you have a small mod that gives you more banner symbols? default skin. take it or leave it." this specifically happens in modern modded minecraft. [1.14 and above] no matter what i do. it forces me to use that skin. i tried changing my skin on minecraft.net to no avail. my skin works on unmodded minecraft and classic modded minecraft [1.12 and below]. but in the modern part. it gets forced to the zuri default skin. any help on how to fix this will be greatly appreciated.
