The damage command doesn't work on invisible armor stands.

When a command block runs

damage @n[type=armor_stand] 0 minecraft:player_attack

on a visible armor stand, the armorstand acts like it does when punched in survival.
If the armorstand is invisible, nothing happens, as can be seen if it's wearing armor.
