Microsoft account migration fails when connecting Xbox account

After over a year of inactivity when I logged into my Microsoft account again, it prompted me to create a new XBox account profile. After doing so it no longer shows that I own Minecraft Java edition any more. It is not visible on my account any more and when I try to launch the game it only allows me to play in Demo mode.

I've sent a support ticket about it with my old transaction ID as proof of purchase but regardless it's really annoying. I don't know how to replicate this if its even possible.
