Animated textures do not work in fonts

The bug

If an animated texture is provided for a text character in a font file, it will not display as animated in-game, instead displaying each frame individually.

How to reproduce

A resource pack is attached that replaces P with the sea lantern texture and p with the glowstone texture. All other specifications are otherwise identical.

Expected results

Capital P would be animated like sea lanterns are.

Actual results

It is not.
