"/execute if item entity @s player.cursor" doesn't work

/execute if items entity @s player.cursor minecraft:grass_block run say .

Did nothing, I had a grass block held by my cursor. Tried it with differen't items, nothing. Tried execute as @p if items @s player.cursor minecraft:iron_sword run say . in a repeating command block, nothing happened
