Elytra breaks when you enter water

I was flying around in my elytra and landed in a lake, but I just got stuck in this odd gliding animation while swimming around in the water at the normal walking speed. the animation ended when I left the water, and can be reproduced by gliding at any height, angle, or direction into a pool of water.

edit: the water has to be at least 2x2x2 blocks to replicate this glitch
