Comparator stops checking chest after powered through a block.

When you have a comparator facing out from a chest and it has a block on top of the chest, and then you power a block next to the comparator the comparator will stop checking the chest even if you unpower the block.

This will continue to happen until you give a block update to the comparator where it will then return to normal.
