Bucket de-spawns when I try to collect water

I crafted two buckets to collect water for a farm and the buckets de-spawned when I tried to collect water.

What I expected to happen was...:

I should have been able to collect the water

What actually happened was...:

The bucket disappeared when I interacted with the water to collect it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Craft a bucket
2. Attempt to collect water from source
