When bonemealing bamboo, some bamboo 'sticks' are thinner

I bonemealed some bamboo, and some bamboo 'sticks' at the bottom are thinner then the ones at the top. It does not happen all the time, and it varies on the place you bonemeal (1st 'stick', 2nd, etc.)
