Jumping early into a two block high ceiling makes the player not gain any height

When jumping early under a 2 block high ceiling, the player gains horizontal momentum from the jump, but doesn't gain any height. I hope you are able to hear the space bar in my attached video, otherwise feel free to try yourselves.
