World spawn interferes with dragon egg

My world spawn is on a village fence, so after defeating the Ender Dragon, I clicked on the dragon egg to make it teleport. Unfortunately, it teleported onto the portal and went through it, ending up on the spawn fence. Since the fence isn't a full block, the egg dropped as an item, and by the time I got to the spawn, it had already despawned. Now, I'm left without a dragon egg in my world, which is really frustrating. The simplest solution I can think of is to disable the ability to spawn on non full blocks.
