Loyalty III DID NOT COME BACK

So i enchanted my trident with loyalty III which is an enchanment which lets your trident come back to you as yk , but i threw my trident from a tree down to the ground which wasnt even that far but i never got it back AND THE VERSION I PLAYED WAS 1.21 , ther was no option for 1.21 above so im writing it here

What I expected to happen was...:
I thought it would come back to me in a few seconds

What actually happened was...:
It never came back and now im thinking of ending my life since i grinded 40 hours for one
