Pressing Esc to close out of Book and Quill erases any edits made

I was writing in a book and quill and I wrote about 20 pages of text. Then I accidentally pressed the Esc key. "lol whoops" I open the book and quill back up, and it was blank, and I was frustrated. 20 pages of text. All gone.
