Error Code 1

Whenever I launch 1.8.9 or 1.8.8 (it does not let me select this in the "affects version" box, for whatever reason) - no matter if i have mods or not - I get error code 1, as shown in the attached image. I do not get a crash log for it. I have updated Java, reinstalled Java, updated my graphics drivers, updated my computer, and more, and I cannot seem to fix the issue.
