Unable to interact with chests and furnaces on Minecraft SMP Servers at times

So I was playing on my SMP server and noticed that chests, furnaces, and anvils occasionally "freeze up" and will not open. Also chests stop working. I have not had this problem in any version on Minecraft outside of the latest version (1.21.1), and I don't know why this is happening. I have a clean laptop, the Minecraft server is set up and configured correctly, and I have never experienced this issue before.
