Wolf Armor disappearing on armor stand

I attempted to put a wolf armor on an arm stand in order to view it.  The armor disappeared.  I moved the armor stand to another place and again attempted to put the armor on the stand and it disappeared again.  while I know the armor stand is not for wolf armor I thought it might go on the head, and thought it would just drop when I broke the stand.  it did neither.
