Breaking a Shulker Box with your hand destroys the Shulker Box with all of it's items inside

Breaking a Shulker Box with your hand destroys the Shulker Box with all of it's items inside.  [Rare, apparently]

 

Reproduce:
1 - Fill items in a Shulker box placed on the ground.

2 - Under Survival Mode, break it without a tool using only the Player's hand.

Expected behavior:

Drops the shulker box as an item, still preserving all of your items that were stored inside, like the previous behavior.
