I cant walk from a chest to a 2 block high space

I have tested this in my survival world with both normal and trapped chests and it fails on both. The chest is placed next to a dirt block with a two block gap above the dirt and a solid block ceiling above that. When i try to walk from the chest to the dirt i am unable to pass through until I am off of the chest.
