Cannot join friends realm Error: Internal Exception: Java.netSocketException: conection Reset

I cannot join my roommates MC realm without the use of a VPN, my username is skulldred and the Realm owner is SuperDuperJake. It keeps disconnecting me unless I use a vpn with the error tagged in the summary. It is very annoy considering we are both paying.
