I CANT ALLOCATE MORE RAM TO MY MINECRAFT 1.5.2

i have tried EVERYTHING suggested on youtube to allocate more ram (2 gb) to my minecraft because it laggs badly. i cant figure how to do it though... ANY SUGGESTIONS?
