Item Frame Map location indicators

When adding maps to item frames, a green indicator is added on the map to show the location of the map in the world. If the map is then removed from the item frame, the green icon still stays on the map, and is impossible to remove. Can we fix this so that when maps in item frames are removed, their green icons are also removed?
