/particle does not support the dyed_color component

I was playing around with the /particle command and and wanted a particle of dyed leather boots but I can only get the white (undyed) texture to show up as a particle. Not even the brown leather texture.
Here is the command I used:
/particle item leather_boots[minecraft:dyed_color=15784] ~ ~1.2 ~ 0 0 0 0.125 20 force

The particle command also does not work with spawn eggs. They also show the default white spawn egg, even when you specify which spawn egg you want the particles from.
Command:
/particle item cow_spawn_egg ~ ~1.2 ~ 0 0 0 0.125 20 force
