changed skin then loaded back in and character reset

i changed my skin then loaded into my friends world and my character reset completely

What I expected to happen was...:
to load back in where i left off with all my items and saved progress but with new skin

What actually happened was...:
i loaded in at world spawn with nothing in inventory and respawn point at my bed was gone

Steps to Reproduce:
1. join a local network world
2. play for an hour getting materials including diamonds
3. leave world to change skin

4.download skin from skindex.com

5.upload skin to launcher and apply

6.load back in to same world and find your entire character reset without inventory or levels
