the Xbox gamepass allows you to create an account. Meaning, if you sign into a launcher not in the xbox gamepass (Lunar, Prism, etc) you can get the game from a 1 time payment if you cancel your xbox gamepass after using the launcher. Minecraft could be actively be losing money although I do not think this is a common error since most people use the default launcher.
