shield blocking screen when using riptide trident

When i use a riptide III trident my shield is taking up over half of the screen

What I expected to happen was...:
the shield not taking up alot of the screen

What actually happened was...:
the shield taking up half my screen

Steps to Reproduce:
1. get a riptide III trident and a shield in offhand and use the trident in water (i dont know if it is like this in the rain)
