Can't bind Button 5 on a mouse

I have a mouse with two side buttons on it and i used to be able to bind both of them to do opening my inventory and changing character perspective; I was last able to do this in 1.20.1. The side buttons usually allow me to use the back and forward on browsers and when I hit button 5 when in the Minecraft menus it goes back to the last menu i was in; so when I try to bind button 5 in the key binds menu it exits out of the menu back to the controls menu instead of rebind the action.
