Can't walk forward when holding CTRL

I've discovered that when I hold CTRL and try to walk forward by pressing W, it doesn't work. It doesn't matter what I bind CTRL to, it will not work no matter what. However, if I start walking forward by pressing W before I press CTRL to crouch, it will work and I will be able to continue walking. The problem only affects the W key as far as I am aware.
