Different .jars

*What I expected to happen was that I install a mod, and everything works fine, and i know how to install mods. But when i try to log in, it can't seem to find the different versions.
Describe what you thought should happen here
I log in with a modded or un-modded version of minecraft.
*What actually happened was I wasn't able to log in at all.
Describe what happened here

Steps to Reproduce:
1. I install Too Many Items
2. Open minecraft, and try to create new profile
3. No versions show up, and now none of the profiles will work.
