Sometimes an arrow goes through/bounces off mobs

I am on an experimental single player save in 1.20.2. Randomly when I fire arrows at mobs they either bounce off or go through. Its only half the time that this occurs but I don't know how to exactly repeat it. It just sometimes happens when I shoot a mob usually at close range. It gets annoying and I recently almost blew up something In my base due to an arrow passing through a creeper. I do not know if it is part of the experimental features or 1.20.2.
