Minecraft stuck on 90% on mojang loading screen

On attempting to launch the game, everything goes as usual until the Mojang loading screen.
On the Mojang loading screen, the loading bar creeps up to about 90% of the way, but then stops without any movement. I doubt the hardware is an issue as I ran the game before thousands of times, but after re-downloading the launcher after a hiatus, I'm unable to load the game.
