bubble collumn invisible from outside the water

I noticed that the bubble collumns generated by soulsand and magma blocks are invisible if there is air between you and the bubbles (but if you are inside the water you can see it as normally)

What I expected to happen was...:
see the bubbles

What actually happened was...:
didn't see the bubbles

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Be in a body of water
2. Place either soulsand under water(source block) or magmablock to generate water collumn
3. Step outside that body of water
