When I dye leather horse armor and put it on horses the dyed color disappears

I dyed leather horse armor (I tested the different colors and none of them work) and before i put it onto the horse the item has the color i dyed (like red or yellow) but when i put it in the horse the color disappears so it looks like the standard one and when I take it out theres no dyed color just the regular leather horse armor
