Beacon does not return items to inventory

In a recent update, when using chests, crafting tables, or even inventory crafting, if items are still in something like a crafting UI, they are now returned to the player's inventory instead of being dropped on the floor (as they used to be). However, while playing in 1.19.2, if an ingot/emerald is placed into a beacon and not utilized for an upgrade, the item is then dropped on the floor instead of returning to the player's inventory. 
While this isn't a major issue, it's just a slight inconsistency and would improve quality of life.
