I just bought minecraft and It wont even let me run it, it just says error....

What I expected to happen was...:I would download minecraft.exe and be able to play the game

What actually happened was...:I go to download the game and it says it is not known so will not let me download but I allowed it anyway and then wont let me download it to my computer, then when I click play game it takes a minute to say "Crash Report" and wont let me play and I do not have forever so please help me
