Dying to a charged creeper makes you lose all your inventory including netherite items

In a thunderstorm, after hitting a creeper with a trident with channeling (in survival), i died to the explosion of the charged creeper. I didn't have a bed placed so i respawned in the world spawn, it took me less than 5 minutes to get to the location of the explosion, and i found just world gen items (dirt, a few coal and seeds). Confused, i came back quickly to my base, got my recovery compass, returned to the same exact location that i was before to confirm it was the same and it was. I lost full netherite gear along with all inventory items, with no cactus or void nowhere near me.
