unusual sweet berry damage

I had an iron golem spawn inside of a dirt block that had a sweet berry bush on top of it, but when I pushed the iron golem I got damaged by the berry bush. I was not touching the bush and the damage only happened while my hitbox was touching the golem's hitbox. I have done no experimentation on other versions or other mobs.
