Minecraft crashes when player is close to something with the glowing effect.

When I get close to another player which has the glow effect in minecraft, it takes a few minutes being in the vacinity and then minecraft freezes. I have to fully close out of minecraft and boot it back up again to fix it. I do not know if this effects single player.
